Quincy, Brinée

Located in the Champagne-Bérichon region (Cher and Indre), along the left bank of the Cher River, the vineyards of Quincy lie on a plateau covered with sand and pebbles. The soil is said to be similar to that of the Graves of Bordeaux.

Only Sauvignon is grown in these vineyards, and the natural characteristics of the soil produce wines with flavors different from those of vineyards in other parts of the region.

The vines are planted on former terraces of the Cher River, composed of sand and gravel. The soils are light and warm quickly. The following three soil types can be found.

  • Sandy/gravelly mixed soil over clayey strata

  • Sandy soils over red sand strata

  • Sandy loamy soils over clayey sand or some sandy clay

Quincy is influenced by an irregular maritime climate, with almost constant precipitation throughout the year. Located in the Champagne-Bérichon region, it has a relatively dry climate (less than 700 mm of precipitation per year) with hot summers.

●Soil

The vineyards are situated on sand and gravel terraces with a limestone and clay base from the early Eocene period. 3 types of soil accelerate the ripening of Sauvignon Blanc: gravel and sandy soil, sandy soil, and a mixture of sand and diatomaceous earth.

●Climate

The climate is continental in character, with average temperatures ranging from -1°C in winter to +25°C in summer. Average annual rainfall is 700mm. The Cancie region of the Centre-Loire is the warmest and driest, allowing the grapes to ripen early.

The district produces mainly white wines from the Sauvignon grape variety. Pinot Noir is used to make red and rosé wines. In addition, the most popular local rosé wine, called "Gris" is made from Pinot Gris.

●Soil

The grapes are grown on the rolling hills of the plateau, on sand and gravel terraces containing calcareous, diatomaceous earth.

●Climate

The Lully wine region is semi-oceanic and is the driest region in the Centre-Loire with an annual rainfall of 632mm. The wines are strongly influenced by the climate of the year. Regardless of the year, the earliest grapes to be harvested are Pinot Gris, which ripens early.
