Vineyards in the Centre-Loire region of the Loire
Cultivation began 2000 years ago in the Centre-Loire area of the Loire region. In the first century, the famous Roman writer Pleny the Elder wrote of a wine region in the Loire. In fact, tools related to wine from that period (machete sickles, amphorae, etc.) have been excavated in the Sancerre region. Today, the eastern part of the Centre-Loire has nearly 5,900 hectares of wine vineyard area. Grapes are grown mainly on the slopes facing the Loire River. Similarly, the Cher and Arnon rivers are also planted.
PGI dry wines from these areas are produced.

Les Sols (soil)
Soils in the Centre-Loire region can be divided into four main types. Kimmeridgean, Port-Landinien, Oxfordian, and Albian soils.
Calcareous clay marl
LES MARNES ARGRIO-CALCAIRES
The calcareous sedimentary rocks are rich in fossilized oysters from the sea. It is the foundation of the wines of the Centre-Loire area. In the area, it is called "white soil" (Terre Blanche Soil).
Limestone
LES CALCAIRES
It is called "Caillottes'' because it is calcareous, and "griotte'' when it becomes a pebble.
Flint clay
LES ARGILES SILEX
The Sauvignon Blanc grape is a good match for this soil. The surface of the soil heats up, creating minerals that give the wine its expressive richness. In the Centre-Loire region, it is also called Silex.
Gravel and sand
LES GRAVES LES SABLES
This soil is made up of alluvium (sediments from waterways). It is commonly found in the Loire, Cher and Arnon rivers and is the standard soil in Quincy.
Le Climat(Climate)
The climate is continental in character, warm but with large differences in temperature, ranging from -1°C in winter to +26°C in summer. The average annual rainfall is 600-800mm, but the rainfall varies from region to region, and the ripening period varies accordingly.
The slopes and plateaus along the Champagne to Val de Loire, Bouchot and Piefort areas of the Berry region are formed by the Loire and Cher rivers, creating elevation differences of 100 to 380 meters. The eternally hilly terrain, with its various angles of slopes, allows the climate to be subdivided and produces a wide variety of quality wines.
